Photi SotiropoulosPhoti Sotiropoulos has completed a Bachelor degree in Communication Studies at Concordia University and is now working on his Master of Arts degree at McGill in the Faculty of Education.

His diverse backgrounds in theatre as well as radio and television have helped him understand the intricacies involved with the performing arts as well as the sophisticated technical aspects related to the field of communications. He has worked as a camera operator, editor, producer, programming director and host of a variety of local, national and international broadcasters.

In 2008-2009, Photi worked as the All-Star location manager for the National Hockey League. He participated in the operation and organization of the All-Star weekend and oversaw the management the Office.  He sourced outlets for recruiting volunteers; prepared
advertisements and direct mail pieces; staffed NHL Volunteer Registration and All Star Information Table/Kiosk at Montreal Canadiens home games and various special events throughout Montreal; assisted in the recruitment and training of NHL All-Star operational staff and worked on local PR and marketing promotions.

He has also taught in the elementary school system and lectured in various universities. His research interests include teaching media literacy to youth as a means of empowerment and looking at the ontology and axiology of sexual diversity education within the sphere of media.

In 2006-2007 he worked as budget coordinator and organizer for the Educational Graduate Student’s Society conference held at McGill University and was a research assistant for ‘Changing Literacies Changing Formations’. He is on the board of the Association for Media Education in Quebec (AMEQ) working to develop and promote Media Literacy in elementary and high schools within the province, and was a facilitator for the Safe Space program which is an educational initiative to create change and make McGill’s campus safer for the LGBT community and their family members. Photi Sotiropoulos also worked with the nonprofit group e-Mage in partnership with community organizations, public and para-public institutions, and private sector groups to introduce young people, from 8 to 24 years old, to state-of-the-art technology, and to help them express themselves dynamically through these new media.

Sotiropoulos is a member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the American Association for the Advancement of Curriculum Studies (AAACS), the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Broadcasters Educational Association.

He was a seminars and lab instructor for the undergraduate Bachelor of Education program in a course entitled: ‘Media Technology and Education’ (EDEC-262) at McGill University.
